Tiny Medical Apps Awarded SBRI Healthcare Funding to Expand Digital Health Passport for Epilepsy

We're thrilled to announce that Tiny Medical Apps has been awarded £799,725 in funding from SBRI Healthcare to develop the Digital Health Passport for Epilepsy. This funding is part of a £3 million initiative to accelerate innovations that improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people living with long-term conditions, including epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes.

SBRI Healthcare, in partnership with the Accelerated Access Collaborative (AAC) and the Health Innovation Network, has selected four projects for Phase 2 funding, following an initial six-month Phase 1 evaluation. The goal is to further develop and refine these innovations over the next 12 months, paving the way for real-world implementation within the NHS.

Transforming Epilepsy Care with Digital Health Passport

At Tiny Medical Apps, we believe digital solutions can make a tangible difference in the way young people manage long-term health conditions. The Digital Health Passport for Epilepsy has been co-designed with Young Epilepsy to ensure that it meets the real needs of children, young people, and their caregivers.

Our platform provides:

  • Medication Management – Helping users track doses, set reminders, and understand their treatments.
  • Seizure Tracking – Allowing individuals to log seizure activity and recognise patterns over time.
  • Wellbeing Support – Including resources for mental health and coping strategies.
  • Accessibility Features – Such as voice control, ensuring inclusivity for users with learning disabilities.
  • NHS System Integration – Connecting with existing healthcare records for seamless communication with clinical teams.

By leveraging AI and user-friendly digital interfaces, the Digital Health Passport aims to empower young people, improve self-management, and reduce hospital admissions.

A Step Forward in Supporting Young People's Health

Dr. Greg Burch, co-founder of Tiny Medical Apps, welcomed the funding, stating:

"The Digital Health Passport is transforming asthma care for young people, and this funding enables us to extend its benefits to those living with epilepsy. Co-designed with Young Epilepsy, our solution puts children and families at the centre of their care, ensuring they have the tools they need to manage their condition with confidence. We're grateful to SBRI Healthcare and our partners for recognising the potential of digital innovation in improving health outcomes."

The Bigger Picture

This funding aligns with NHS England's Core20PLUS5 approach, which focuses on tackling health inequalities among children and young people. With nearly a third of the UK's population under the age of 25, innovations like the Digital Health Passport play a crucial role in ensuring that every child has access to high-quality care and support.

We're excited to embark on this next phase of development and look forward to working with our partners to bring the Digital Health Passport for Epilepsy to life. Stay tuned for updates as we progress towards real-world implementation and continue our mission to empower young people through digital health solutions.
